Extending your Visa on Arrival in Bali

If you arrived on an e-VOA (Visa on Arrival) and want to stay longer, you can extend it once for a further 30 days - giving you up to 60 days in Indonesia in total, without leaving the country.

This is the single biggest advantage the e-VOA has over the free visa exemption, which cannot be extended at all.

We handle the whole process for you, including collecting your passport from wherever you're staying in Bali.

Who can extend

  • Anyone currently in Indonesia on a valid e-VOA / Visa on Arrival
  • Your current stay must not have expired - start before it runs out
  • The e-VOA can be extended once only. After the second 30 days you must leave Indonesia, or switch to a longer visa such as the B211A (which requires leaving and re-entering) or a KITAS

If you entered on the free visa exemption rather than an e-VOA, extension is not possible - you'll need to exit and re-enter on a proper visa.

When to apply - do not leave this late

Start your extension 7-10 days before your current stay expires.

Immigration processing takes time, and the office may require an in-person appointment for photographs and fingerprints. Applying with only two or three days left is the most common way people end up overstaying by accident.

Check the date written on your arrival stamp - that date, not your flight date, is what governs your permitted stay.

How the extension works

  1. Tell us your details - passport, current visa, where you're staying in Bali.
  2. We collect your passport from your hotel, villa or guesthouse. Coverage across Bali - Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Sanur, Denpasar and beyond.
  3. We lodge the extension with the immigration office.
  4. Biometrics appointment if required - immigration may require you to attend in person for a photo and fingerprints. We tell you in advance, book the slot, and guide you through it.
  5. We return your passport with your new permitted stay recorded.

How long it takes

Plan on 7-10 business days from lodgement, depending on the immigration office's current workload and whether a biometrics appointment is needed. Indonesian public holidays can extend this.

This is exactly why the "start early" advice matters - the process is routine, but it is not instant.

What it costs

Current pricing is shown in the panel on this page, quoted in AUD and converted to your local currency at checkout.

Compare that with an overstay fine, which Indonesia charges per day, per person. Extending on time is always cheaper than overstaying.

What you need

  • Your passport (we collect it)
  • Your current e-VOA / arrival stamp details
  • Your address in Bali
  • Availability for a biometrics appointment if immigration requires one

Overstaying - why it's worth avoiding

Indonesia charges a daily fine for every day you overstay. Beyond a short overstay the consequences escalate: extended overstays can lead to detention, deportation and a re-entry ban.

Practical safeguards:

  • Photograph your arrival stamp the day you land, so you always have the expiry date
  • Set a phone reminder for 10 days before it expires
  • If you're unsure how many days you have left, message us and we'll check for you

After your extension - what are the options?

Once your extended 60 days are up, the e-VOA cannot be extended again. Your options:

Option What it means
Leave Indonesia Exit before expiry; you can return on a new e-VOA
B211A visit visa 60 days, extendable to 180 total - requires applying and re-entering
Digital Nomad KITAS 1 year, for remote workers with overseas income
Retirement KITAS 1 year, for over-55s with pension income
Investor KITAS 1-2 years, tied to an Indonesian company

If you find yourself extending repeatedly, a KITAS is almost certainly cheaper and far less stressful than an endless cycle of visas.

Questions about the Visa Extension

Do I have to go to immigration?

For most extensions, no. Some visa types require one biometric/photo appointment - we book it and guide you, and handle everything else.

How early should I extend?

Start at least 7 days before your visa expires. Message us and we'll tell you the exact deadline for your visa.

Can I extend my Bali Visa on Arrival?

Yes, the e-VOA can be extended once for a further 30 days, giving you up to 60 days in Indonesia in total - without leaving the country. The free visa exemption, by contrast, cannot be extended at all.

When should I apply for my visa extension?

Start 7-10 days before your current stay expires. Immigration processing takes time and may require an in-person biometrics appointment, so applying with only a couple of days left risks an accidental overstay.

Do I have to go to the immigration office myself?

Immigration may require one in-person appointment for a photograph and fingerprints. We book the slot, tell you exactly what to expect, and handle everything else - including collecting and returning your passport.

How long does a Bali visa extension take?

Typically 7-10 business days from lodgement, depending on the immigration office's workload and whether biometrics are required. Indonesian public holidays can add time, which is why we recommend starting early.

Do you collect my passport from my hotel?

Yes. We collect from hotels, villas and guesthouses across Bali - Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Sanur, Denpasar and beyond - and return it with your new permitted stay recorded.

How many times can I extend my e-VOA?

Once only. After that second 30-day period you must leave Indonesia or move onto a different visa, such as a B211A (which requires re-entering) or a KITAS for longer-term stays.

What happens if my visa expires before the extension is approved?

This is why timing matters. As long as your extension is lodged before your current stay expires, you are in process legally. Leaving it too late is the most common cause of accidental overstay.

What does a visa extension cost?

Current pricing is shown on this page in AUD, converted to your local currency at checkout. It's always cheaper than Indonesia's per-day overstay fine.

Can I extend if I entered on the free visa exemption?

No. The visa exemption cannot be extended or converted. You would need to leave Indonesia and re-enter on an e-VOA or another visa. This is why we usually recommend the e-VOA over the exemption.

What if I want to stay longer than 60 days?

You'll need a different visa - a B211A gives 60 days extendable to 180, while a Digital Nomad, Retirement or Investor KITAS gives a year or more. We can advise which fits your situation.
